About Korouoma Canyon

An independent comparison of the guided trips that run to the frozen waterfalls of Korouoma, in Posio, about 105 kilometres south-east of Rovaniemi. We compare tour listings, official visitor information and recent traveller feedback. We do not operate or personally conduct these tours, hold no bookings and drive no vans. Why this site exists

Nine companies sell what looks like the same day out, at prices that differ by eighty dollars. Read the listings side by side and the differences turn out to be concrete: two and a half hours in the canyon against four, ice grips supplied or not, a 20 km pickup radius against an office door, a hot BBQ against a sausage at the fire.

Meanwhile the free half of the picture goes missing. Metsahallitus grades the trail Hard, states that it gets no winter maintenance and that ice grippers are needed, publishes the height of every icefall on the loop, and records that firewood supply at the lean-tos on the long trail ended in June 2025. Putting those two halves on one page is the entire job here.

Where the figures come from

Tour prices, durations, ratings, review counts, inclusions and minimum ages are read from each operator's own listing, in US dollars, and re-checked quarterly. Every tour page carries the same fields in the same order so that two listings can be compared line by line.

Trail data, icefall measurements, camping rules and maintenance notices come from Metsahallitus, the agency that manages the reserve, and are linked where they are used. Traveller feedback is read across the platform reviews for the tours listed here; quotes are short excerpts carrying the reviewer's name, country and month as published. We write no testimonials.

What we do not do

We do not walk the trail on your date, meet the guides or audit anyone's safety record. Whether the descent is glass or snow on a given February morning is a question for the company you book with, and for the conditions that week.

We also take no bookings. Every Check Availability button hands you to the platform the operator sells on, where the price, the terms and the cancellation policy are the ones that count. If a figure here has gone stale, tell us and it gets fixed.
